Highworth played host to a Bowls Wiltshire Ladies (BWL) fixture for the second time this year, this time being a South West Counties League (SWCL) match against Herefordshire Ladies. The match kicked-off one hour early in order to give all parties the opportunity to get home in time for England’s World Cup semi-final appearance and the pattern of play on the majority of the rinks, right from the off, indicated which way the final result would be decided. Rink 1 was an exception, with a tight struggle for most of their match until the latter quarter of their match when the Wiltshire Ladies made a decisive break.
Whilst the final result is not known at time of writing, BWL won four of the six rinks and took the aggregate as well, their biggest winning margin gained by those on Rink Two.
A big thanks to all the Highworth members who turned out in some part to help with making the day run smoothly, but particularly to Maggie Jordan and her team of ladies who worked tirelessly in the kitchen on a hot day to produce a two-course cooked meal for both teams to enjoy whilst they mulled over the days events.
President Chris Hidden welcomes officials from both sides to Highworth, handing the green over to BWL for the duration of the match.
