An Update from the Chair No.2

An Update from the Chair No.2

Hi All,

The season is fast approaching and there are a number of things that we can start to organise now in order to make a prompt start under the sun.

Bookcase: If anyone has a bookcase in good order that they’d like to donate to the club please let me know as we intend to sell second-hand books and puzzles this year to raise some additional funds and to recycle these amongst members and visitors.

Male bowling members – Chris Mussen has placed a sheet in the men’s changing room for you to signal whether you would like to play in the Swindon & District Tea & Biscuits league (generally Monday afternoons). If keen please pop your name down and if you have a preference for which Team A (Div 6),B (Div 5) or C (Div 1) please tick the appropriate box. This will be taken down on April 3rd so if you can’t get to the club by then please feel free to email Chris at: email hidden; JavaScript is required

Friendly Captain: If any member would like to be considered for the position of Friendly Captain please let me know. You will need some organisational ability, a friendly encouraging disposition and an understanding that the emphasis of all Friendly games should be on enjoyment and presenting a positive image of Highworth Bowls Club.

Club Competitions: Phil Lane has put up the competition entry sheet just inside the members entrance door. Please insert your name and then tick each competition you would like to enter. This will be removed before the end of April as we need to make a swift start to competitions this year so best to think about this early so as not to miss out. You can email Phil with any questions and your entries if you can’t get to the club. email hidden; JavaScript is required

Trophy Cabinets: All of the trophies have been engraved and cleaned, several had up to 6 or 7 years of winners missing. You will notice that the fruit machine cabinets have been removed which will enable the trophies to have a more prominent position opposite the bar. Several new trophies have also been purchased for the new competitions which will run this year.

Rink Booking: In readiness for the new season why not have a look at the club website and register for the rink booking system if you aren’t already using it. Priority for rinks will be given to those using the system in the coming season. If you are unsure about using the technology don’t worry a committee member will help, just ask. They’ll even make the booking for you if you give them a ring.

Midweek Club Leagues: The forms for people to register interest in playing in the Friday Afternoon Internal Triples League and the Midweek Evening Triples League (match nights will vary to fit in with home League games but will mostly be  Wednesdays with some games on Tuesdays) are up in the corridor outside of the changing rooms. Please register your interest if you wish to play in either or both of these, or if you would rather just be called upon as a reserve rather than committing to play regularly.

The sheet for the Midweek Evening Triples League will be removed on or about the 24th April with games to start May 10th or 18th. If you can’t get to the club Paul is happy for you to email him at: email hidden; JavaScript is required

Cutlery Mystery: In a recent tidy up of the club storeroom we found two ‘Vintage Retro 1960s Italian Silver Plated Ep zing 51 Piece Cutlery Set Boxed’ does anyone know how these came to be in the club? We are intending to sell these but not before we check on their provenance. I will leave them in the corridor by the changing rooms for people to have a look at. If no information is forthcoming we will be looking to accept reasonable offers for each set or possibly place them on EBay to raise funds for the club.

Promotional T-Shirts: Also during the clean-up we came across a box of promotional t-shirts. Again, we have left these just inside the entrance to the changing rooms. Please help yourself if you would like any otherwise they will be disposed of before the start of the season.

Working Party: Calling all members, we have planned a working party weekend for the 26th/27th February and would value your support. We have many jobs that members can help us with which will be allocated on the day to suit individuals skills and abilities. We’ll be there from 8.30am each day and will finish around 12.30pm. However, all help will be gratefully received even if you can only stay for an hour on one morning. As the saying goes ‘many hands make light work’ although Micky Woolmer our ‘lecky’ is most likely to make light work!

Next Social: Come along and have a laugh at the Race Night on Saturday 5th March, more details will follow. Bingo takes place again on 19th March

Many Thanks

Chris
