The Men won their National Top Club match this evening against Royal Wootton Bassett B with a comfortable 3.5-1.5 win.
Highworth got off to the best possible start with a win by Richard Young in the 2 Wood Singles. This was followed by a comfortable win in the Triples by Kieron Pollock, Stuart Murray and Tom Walkley.
Then came our only loss, but perhaps our most characterful performance, when Shaun Hicks and Gary Willis came back from a terrible start to their Pairs game being 16-2 down after 7 ends to lead 21-20 with one end to play. Sadly, the vastly experienced skip from Bassett bowled superbly to collect 2 shots and win the game.
The rinks team of John Jordan, Chris Mussen, Chris Davis and Robert Etherington were engaged in a very close tussle against their opponents but finally came out winners by 2 shots.
With the match in the bag Tom Pittuck who was involved in a very close Singles match agreed a draw with his opponent to leave Highworth the victors.
Next up is a game at Westlecott against their very strong A team, to be played by 12th June.
