Highworth’s Linda Young, Joanna Hicks and Maggie Jordan were part of the Wiltshire Ladies team which stunned Devon in the quarter-finals of the Johns Trophy at the neutral venue of Castle Cary, Somerset on Saturday 14th July, booking their place in the semi-finals for the first time in 23 years.
It was close throughout, with Wiltshire leading for practically the whole of the 21-ends, leading by two across the board after five ends. That lead increased to four after 10 and remained four after five more ends. The gap increased to eight at 18 ends before Wiltshire came home 115-108.
Wiltshire won three of the six rinks, whilst the “Highworth” rink skipped by Linda drew 23 – 23.
Wiltshire will now play Yorkshire in the semi-finals at Leamington on August 4th. The winner of that match will take on either Surrey or Northamptonshire in the final.
Congratulations Linda, Jo and Maggie. The Highworth ladies are really doing the club proud in 2018, this now being the third National Finals event that will feature Highworth representation. Good luck at Leamington and here’s hoping you and your Wiltshire Ladies team-mates can progress and bring the trophy back to Wiltshire.
