Linda’s National Singles run ends at last 16

Linda Young won her first round match on Thursday afternoon with a 21 -17 victory over her opponent from Oxfordshire.

Come Friday lunchtime and Linda faced an opponent from Berkshire and was looking comfortable at 13 – 3, before seeing her lead eroded down to a single shot at 13-12. Gaining her second wind, she then went on to win 21 – 15 and move into the last 16.

After a break of little more than 45 minutes, Linda was back on the green and facing the defending champion from Warwickshire. Having recovered from an early 5-1 deficit to level up at 7-7, with an enforced break due to hail(see picture) at 3-5. Linda then took a 13-7 lead with a 2 and a 4. With hopes of an appearance in the quarter-finals rising, Linda unfortunately suffered severe stomach cramps and with them her chance passed her by, her opponent seizing her chance and running out the 21-14 winner.

Whilst it was unfortunate to go out in the way that she did, Linda can be very proud of what she has achieved.
