HBC’s ladies went to Westlecot to compete in four finals and came away from the day’s events 50% successful. Joanna Hicks missed out in her Champion of Champions decider whilst Linda Young retained her 2-Wood Singles crown for the third successive year.
In the Charity Triples, the combination of Sue McCormack, Ashlee Lin and Deanne Davis found the Purton trio skipped by Alison Fail just too good on the day,
Linda made it a double for her day when she skipped Maggie Jordan, Deanne and Jo to victory over a Charlie Godwin skipped team from Wootton Bassett in the Fours.
Congratulations and commiserations in equal measure then but there’s promise of more to come in future.
Highworth were well represented on the first day of this year’s S&D Finals Weekend, held at Shrivenham, with seven titles up for grabs. In the Under-25s it was Highworth vs Highworth with David Murray facing off against Sean Etherington and David taking the spoils. Mark Richman maintained his hold on the Officers’ Trophy, winning it for the fourth consecutive year,
Disappointingly, that was as good as it got, title-wise, so it was commiserations and the runners-up spot for HBCs other participants.
However, all are to be congratulated on getting to the finals in the first place and hopefully, next year, they can go one better. So, it is over to the ladies for Sunday’s finals.
Congratulations to Rob Etherington, who has made his way through to the Champion of Champions Final at Westlecot on Saturday 14th September, where he will face Barry Pittuck of Town Gardens.
Adding to the Highworth finalists will be Chris Mussen, who has won his way through to the Over 60’s Singles final on the same day. He will be facing C. Thomas of Garrards or J Thomas of Westlecot. Well done Chris!
Joining them will be Mark Richman, who will contest the S&D Officers Cup for the 4th consecutive year. His opponent is yet to be decided, but there is the opportunity for a second all-Highworth final when Stuart Murray takes on Purton’s Paul Boyles.
Also qualified is David Murray, who beat ex-HBC player Ben Choules in his semi, to make it an all HBC S&D Under-25s final playing against Sean Etherington.
Well done one and all and good luck to you all on Finals day.
Congratulations to Sean Etherington on making it to the Swindon & District Under-25 Final for the second year running. Sean beat Highworth old boy James Richman in their semi-final at Highworth, winning 19 – 10.
In the final, to be held on Saturday 14th September, he will meet either David Murray, in what would be an all HBC final, or another Highworth old boy in Ben Choules, to whom Sean lost in last year’s final.
A big well done to Deanne Davis, Ashlee Lin & Sue McCormack, who have reached the final of the Swindon & District Ladies Charity Triples by beating Swindon North End in their semi-final held at Purton.
Having already beaten triples from Wootton Bassett and the much fancied triple from Stratton Churchways in previous rounds, the Highworth ladies maintained their form to win a close contest by 5 shots.
The final will be played at Westlecot on Sunday 15th September where the opponents will either be from Purton or Supermarine.
All the best for the final ladies.
