Saturday 15th Dec. 2018 – Highworth found Carterton just too good in their indoor friendly, going down 47 – 72, their skips in particular being in outstanding form, stripping Highworth of winning situations time after time. The score did not truly reflect how hard fought each game was, especially considering Highworth featured some bowlers who had never bowled indoors before, finding themselves playing much more experienced opposition in that regard but giving it their all.
In a match that featured two rinks and two triples games, Highworth did manage a win in one of the rinks games with Andrew Wicks, Hazel Hayes Ian Dandy & Stuart Murray finishing strongly to record a 22 – 16 success that included a hot-shot 8 on their penultimate end.
By the way Stuart, 21 plus 1 equals 22!
Richard Charlton & Bob Clements are currently in discussions with businesses in Highworth, and the surrounding area, with a view to obtaining sponsorship for the club in future years. They have already signed up four sponsors, Asset Guardian Will Writers, Edward Bays Heating & Plumbing, Hanley’s Estate Agents and Hillier’s Funeral Services, who will have boards displayed around the green during 2019, with the potential for more sponsors to be added in the near future.
The club very much appreciates the support of our sponsors and a new page has been created on our website listing those sponsors and providing links to their own websites. You will find this on the very right of the green navigation bar at the top of the screen.
The club asks that all members keep our sponsors in mind and look to utilise their services when they might need them. When so doing, please let our sponsor know that you are from Highworth Bowls Club, or saw their board at Highworth Bowls Club, as we do hope that our sponsors will wish to continue working with us beyond 2019.
The website now has a section that lists our sponsors and provides links to their websites. Please click here for Sponsors
On behalf of all club members, your Management Committee wishes to record the club’s appreciation of Richard and Bob’s efforts.
At the club’s AGM on Tuesday 4th December, the majority of the club’s officers in 2018 were returned to their posts for 2019. With Ian Webb stepping down as the Social Members’ Representative and Richard Young not wishing to stand again as Men’s Captain, the floor duly returned Christine and Neil Biles, respectively, into those positions.
Elsewhere David Armitage stood down as Weekend Friendlies Captain and passed the baton to Ian Barrett, David’s vice-captain of the past two years, whilst Paul Barrow took over as Bowls Section Treasurer from Joanna Hicks after a vote.
A big, big thanks to those standing down for their efforts during 2018 and a warm welcome to those coming on-board for 2019.

For any member participating in championships or competitions bound by Bowls England rules in 2019 then getting acquainted with the rule changes released in November 2018 might be of interest. All changes are highlighted within the document to make it easier to work your way through the document.

All the men’s and ladies’ league fixtures for the 2019 outdoor season, along with the weekend friendlies and a number of “special” fixtures are already booked in and listed in the Fixtures section opf this website. The ladies’ friendly with Faringdon is also confirmed, whilst a date is awaited from Hungerford in order to finalise the ladies’ friendlies.
Friday Afternoon Triples dates have been drafted, but the actual number of rounds required will be dependent upon the number of teams participating next year. Assuming the same number of teams and same approach as 2018, then, with no touring team to host next year and the green open an additional week in September, there will be no non-Friday fixtures in the schedule.
The Evening Triples fixtures can now begin to be defined, but the league scheduling has created some challenges with some week’s seeing all league teams p[laying at home. Like the Friday Afternoon Triples, the actual number of weeks required will be determined by the number of participating teams.
