With one end left per rink, Highworth held a ten shot lead only to see every rink lose their final end and that ten point advantage reversed into a three point loss. Disappointment for Highworth and the trophy returned to Shrivenham for another year.

After a bright start for Highworth in a match of two triples and two rinks, Witney Mills regained the initiative and took the win. New member Ian Dandy had a sound debut, even putting up a potential winning wood for the rink. It was not to be and worse, a heavy cloudburst half way through the final end “drowned out” the chance to recover the end

Playing at Filkins is a unique experience in our calendar. With two thirds of the match played, Highworth looked in with a shout of sneaking a win, but Filkins held off our challenge and extended their winning margin in the closing stages.

Highworth shocked their opponents with three winning rinks and a draw in this match. Ian Barrett’s rink of talent provided the platform for the win, whilst Jill Barrow;s rink held off a late Fairford challenge to win on the last end. Mick Crooks produced a stunning bowl on the final end that led to Hazel Hayes’ rink finishing with a five to give a flattering scoreline to what had been a nip and tuck game throughout.
 Result: Fairford 76   Highworth 98

Cirencester took the honours today, winning three of the five triples, two of those by large margins. Elaine was taken ill half way through Rink 1’s match, but Highworth were able to call on spectator and vice-captain, Ian Barrett’s services from the sidelines, and whose shorts and pale legs probably helped put off the opposition!
Result: Highworth 61   Cirencester 82

 Won 18 – 15  Lost 20 – 26  Won 22 – 13  Won 22 – 11  Won 18 – 9
Having had to take some circuitous routes to get to the green, Highworth found the newly laid Marlborough green more to their liking than their hosts. Ian Barrett guested for the short-handed home side and was chiefly responsible for Marlborough’s sole success of the afternoon.
Result: Marlborough 74   Highworth 100

Andrew led well throughout on his rink and Jill enjoyed a successful debut as skip as Highworth enjoyed a win over local rivals Faringdon. Whilst two triples were unsuccessful, they both rallied really well in the later stages of their games and, in one case, only just came up short of sneaking a win.

In a match of very tight ganes across every rink, Highworth just couldn’t quite pull it off and the last couple of ends on a number of rinks saw our chance to eke out a win slip away.
Result: Wantage 72   Highworth 60
Sunday 7th May 2017 – Witney Town vs Highworth
Rink 1 Rink 2 Rink 3 Rink 4 Rink 5

 Lost 6 – 20  Won 14 – 12  Won 17 – 13  Lost 17 – 16  Lost 16 – 14
Witney Town hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Highworth in recent years and it wasn’t a surprise to come away with another loss this time around. That said, David’s rink, having gone 12-0 down in the first half of their game could consider themselves very unlucky having rallied in the second half, only to see end after end of winning positions wiped out by some fortuitous bowls from the opposing skip.
Result: Witney Town 82   Highworth 63
